Nice dissertation on the Bombers Rohan. I have been an Essendon supporter for 60 years, and I haven’t been this pessimistic about the club since the early 1970s. I probably hit my low water mark when Graham Moss left after winning the Brownlow. I’d say the club has been in a tail spin for over 20 years. Some of the blunders; the back ended contracts to Hird and Mercuri which led to salary cap problems leading to the departure of Heffernan, Blumfield, Hardwick et al. The misplaced, and ongoing, misty eyed sentimentalism over Sheedy, who coached for 4 years too long. The Sheedy inspired recruiting of Zantuck, Murphy, Alvey, Cupido, Camporeale and Allen, all of whom had shortcomings. Sheedy,s myopia with Ted Richards. David Evans acquiescence with the AFLs insistance to self report. Appointing Bomber Thompson as coach when he clearly had issues. The lack of a competitive process around Rutten s appointment. Did anyone think to have a chat to Dean Solomon. I could go on, but you get my point…
Rory Atkins doesn’t dye his hair, he wears a rug. There is a photo of him on big footy that shows that he is bald. If you look closely at his hair, you can tell it’s a rug. The hairline looks totally unnatural.
Nice dissertation on the Bombers Rohan. I’m a 60 Year essendon supporter and we are BACK where we were I the early 70s. I haven’t been this low since Graham Moss left after the Brownlow win. I think we’ve been getting it wrong for over 20 years; the cult of Sheedy, the cult of Hird, the back ended contracts to Hird and Mercuri that led to a salary cap blowout and the resultant cull of Heffernan, Blumfield, Hardwick et al. The crazy Sheedy inspired recruiting of Zantuck, Murphy, Alvey, Camporeale and Allen 3 of whom were less than solid citizens. Link that with Sheedy showing Ted Richards the door and those decisions look even worse. The supplements fiasco. The appointing of Bomber Thompson as coach when he clearly had issues. The lack of a competitive process around Rutten’s appointment… did anyone think to have a word with Dean Solomon? I could go on, but you get my point.
