After a flurry of activity during the first three days of the 2022 AFL trade period, things slowed to a crawl on Thursday with just the one transaction completed.

Gold Coast forward Josh Corbett has been traded to Fremantle in exchange for a future fourth-round pick.

Corbett became the 13th player to switch clubs during this trade/free agency period.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Suns in 2018 as a special assistance signing, has kicked 33 goals from 36 games since his debut for the Suns in 2019.

He enjoyed his best year in 2021, with 23 majors from 16 appearances, but could only manage four matches this year.

The Dockers hope Corbett will fill the void that Griffin Logue has left as a hit-up forward after Logue was traded to North Melbourne.

“We’ve been blown away by the club. They’re all-round good people and it’s been nice and easy to make it appealing for us to want to travel to the other side of Australia,” Corbett said.

Corbett has already met with star young midfielders Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong, and was mightily impressed by the duo.

“They’re the core young group of the football club and their ultimate goal obviously is they want to continue to press for the ultimate success of a premiership,” Corbett said.

“I’ll always look back and treasure my time at the Suns and wish them nothing but the best.

“There’s certainly no bad blood there and they were really helpful in their ability to help me continue my football journey somewhere else.”

West Coast has reportedly inquired about dashing Port Adelaide defender Dan Houston, as part of the floated complex three-club trade that would see the Power receive Jason Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli, and North Melbourne collect pick No.2, while Geelong big man Esava Ratugolea also wants to join the Power.

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions have confirmed that their primary focus is now on securing Hawthorn forward Jack Gunston so they might accrue enough draft picks in order to complete a trade for Bulldogs star Josh Dunkley.

Although, the Dunkley trade seems to have reached an impasse.

Brisbane football manager Danny Daly also emphatically quashed any chance of former No.1 pick Cam Rayner being traded.

“We haven’t spoken to anyone about it because he loves this footy club, we love him, he’s not going anywhere,” Daly told AFL Trade Radio.

“In fact, we’re getting his brother up to play in our VFL team hopefully next year.

“We’ve got high hopes for Cam coming off a year with his knee surgery. We feel he can go to another level next year and be a really important player for us.

“He’s not going anywhere. I can end that speculation right now.”

But Daly did confirm Rhys Mathieson’s management indicated the fringe midfielder was open to switching clubs.

“At this point he hasn’t come and asked us for a trade, but if he was to do that we’d have a chat to him and work through what the best situation is for the club and for Rhys,” Daly said.

“But as yet we haven’t formally been asked to trade him.”

Elsewhere, Collingwood forward Oliver Henry’s manager Anthony McConville was confident the youngster would make his way to Geelong.

“He’s a Geelong boy… he’s got super close ties to his family and his tight support network down there,” McConville said.

“Obviously, his brother (Jack) playing at Geelong is a big draw for him as well. It’s nothing on the Pies. The Pies didn’t do anything wrong or anything like that.

“He feels the environment, long term, is better to be back home and back in that comfortable environment for him.”

In other news, Gold Coast re-signed key forwards Levi Casboult and Chris Burgess, while Sydney extended the contracts of Ryan Clarke and Will Gould.
