Fremantle’s Darcy Tucker (left) and Griffin Logue are headed to North Melbourne for the 2023 season.

The steady stream of player movements has continued on day three of the 2022 AFL trade period with another four footballers finding new homes.

Premiership Western Bulldogs defender Zaine Cordy has made his way to St Kilda as an unrestricted free agent, while Fremantle duo Griffin Logue and Darcy Tucker have joined North Melbourne, along with the Dockers’ future third-round pick.

In exchange, Fremantle obtained North Melbourne’s future second-, third- and fourth-round selections.

The Bulldogs didn’t receive any compensation from the AFL for Cordy’s departure as they have already acquired Liam Jones via free agency.

And late in the day, on day three of AFL trading, St Kilda’s Ben Long landed at Gold Coast after his trade request was finalised on Wednesday afternoon.

The 25-year-old heads to the Suns along with a future fourth-round pick, with the Saints getting pick 32 in return.

Brisbane’s Tom Berry, meanwhile, moves to Gold Coast along with pick No. 46 and a future second round selection in exchange for pick No. 25, No. 36 and 56.

Cordy will bolster the Saints’ defence, helping the likes of Dougal Howard and Callum Wilkie, and he said he was “really happy” to be headed to Moorabbin.

“While I loved my time at the Bulldogs and will forever be grateful for the opportunities they gave me, I’m confident the time is right for this next chapter of my career,” Cordy said.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all my teammates and coaches after the break and getting stuck into a big pre-season.”

Logue admitted he wasn’t prepared for the “long process” of joining a new club.

“But as the year’s gone on, it was a bit of a no-brainer in the end,” Logue said.

“Once I met ‘Clarko’ (coach Alastair Clarkson), it went from there. He gave me a lot of confidence that I had made the right choice.”

After spending some time up forward for the Dockers this year, Logue hoped to head back into his natural habitat in defence with North on a more permanent basis.

Tucker was stoked to be joining the Kangaroos too, and the pull of his home state proved irresistible.

“I felt like this was the right opportunity to come home for a variety of reasons,” he said.

“Excited for a new, fresh start and a new opportunity at North and can’t wait to crack into it.”

Heading to his new club with former Fremantle teammate Logue made the transition easier for Tucker.

“Makes it heaps better … we’re close friends,” Tucker said.

Meanwhile, after weighing up offers from Geelong, Essendon and Hawthorn, Gold Coast midfielder Jack Bowes, and the No.7 pick attached to him as part of the Suns’ “salary dump” package, has chosen the Cats as his preferred destination.

Elsewhere, Riley Bonner’s manager David Trotter confirmed Port Adelaide were open to letting the defender go during the trade period, but denied his client had spoken to North Melbourne after it was speculated he could form part of a deal that sees No.1 pick Jason Horne-Francis join the Power.

“I’ve had discussions with Port over the last couple of weeks,” Trotter told AFL Trade Radio.

“They’re obviously trying to do a lot of things, at the moment with (Junior) Rioli and Horne-Francis. They’ve said if there was an opportunity for Riley, they’d look at it.”

Trotter also reiterated Collingwood’s interest in another of his clients, Gold Coast midfielder Brayden Fiorini, while the Blues remain committed to facilitating a trade for former No.3 pick Paddy Dow.

In other news, the Brisbane Lions traded their pick 15 to the Giants for pick 21 and a future second-round pick in a move that might strengthen their ability to get a trade completed for star Bulldogs midfielder Josh Dunkley.
