The sixth day of the 2023 AFL trade period was quiet, but not as quiet as it usually is.

It’s very rare for a deal to take place on the weekend, but on Saturday, Hawthorn and West Coast came to terms on a trade for Tyler Brockman.

Fremantle had also shown interest in the small forward, but he now heads to the Eagles, with picks 44 and 63 going back the Hawks’ way.

Brockman played 26 games and kicked 23 goals, including two hauls of three, in three years at Waverley Park, since being selected with pick 46 at the 2020 draft.

The struggling Eagles will hope that the 20-year-old will assist Jamie Cripps in adding some badly-needed zip to their forward line.

“We were keen on Tyler in his initial draft year so it is very pleasing to have this deal done that now brings him to the club,” West Coast list manager Rohan O’Brien said.

“Doing the deal at this stage means that Tyler can be here for the start of pre-season and he has certainty as he prepares to bring his young family home.”

Hawthorn list manager Mark McKenzie said the club respected Brockman’s wish to return to his home state WA.

“Having become a father to beautiful twin girls, his desire to move his young children and partner back home to be with family in Perth is an understandable one,” McKenzie said.

“We’d like to thank Tyler for his contribution to our football club, we are very proud of his development both on and off the field over the past three years and we wish him, his partner Tyrah, and their twin daughters, Amaliah and Amyrah, the very best for the future. They will always be a part of the Hawthorn family.”

Meanwhile, West Coast took the unusual move of taking to social to emphatically dismiss suggestions that they were looking to trade premiership trio Elliot Yeo, Jack Darling and Liam Duggan as “completely unfounded and untrue”.

The final four days of the exchange period promise to be hectic with a whole host of players still expected to change clubs.

Brisbane forward Jack Gunston has informed the Lions that he wants to be traded back to Hawthorn, where he won three premierships and played 211 matches for 410 goals, after just one year up in Queensland.

Port Adelaide youngster Xavier Duursma is seeking to become the fourth player to move to the Bombers, following on from Todd Goldstein, Ben McKay and Jade Gresham, and gun Fremantle forward Lachie Schultz wants to join the Magpies.

The Power loom as a big player in the trade period with Geelong swing man Esava Ratugolea, Essendon defender Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Bulldogs ruckman Jordon Sweet all seemingly destined to join them.

Essendon on-baller Dylan Shiel had been linked to a potential Gresham trade, but after the former Saint was secured as a free agent, it’s unclear where that leaves Shiel.

Bulldogs forward Rory Lobb had been talked about as potentially being in the market for a fourth club – possibly Melbourne – while vastly-improved Fremantle youngster Liam Henry has asked to be traded to St Kilda.

Gold Coast looks set to lose key forward Mabior Chol, who is in Hawthorn’s sights, Hawks forward Jacob Koschitzke has requested to be traded to Richmond, Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow wants to join St Kilda, and Hawthorn is also the preferred destination for fringe Bombers defender Massimo D’Ambrosio.

The Blues would like to unite Gold Coast’s Elijah Hollands with younger brother Ollie at Ikon Park, and while the rumours won’t go away surrounding star Bulldog Bailey Smith potentially heading to Geelong, the Cats have dismissed those suggestions.

GWS have shown interest in Port Adelaide’s Orazio Fantasia and Adelaide’s Elliott Himmelberg, Crows forward Shane McAdam appears set to become a Demon, St Kilda’s Nick Coffield will likely head to the Bulldogs, and the Magpies have shown interest in another Saint Jack Billings.
