Richmond is looking to create a dynasty, and you can understand why the Tigers are clear flag favourites.

Footy is back with the AFL Community Series, and we are now just a few weeks away from the season proper.

Bookmakers have released odds on the grand final winner for 2021, as well as other markets like the Brownlow Medal. We’re going to take a look at the former below, looking at where the bookmakers have put every AFL team’s chances.

Below are the current prices for the grand final supplied by online bookie MansionBet. Please note that prices are subject to change, especially if teams underperform/overperform in the Community series, players pick up injuries, etc.

Richmond – 3/1
The champions are looking to create a dynasty, and you can understand why they are clear favourites to win a third consecutive flag.

Geelong – 5/1
Some pundits think that 2021 will yield Geelong’s first flag since 2011. They definitely have the star quality and cohesion to do it.

Brisbane – 7/1
A lot of pundits like the Lions’ chances, and it’s easy to see why: they are arguably the AFL’s most complete team – on paper. Joe Daniher could be the difference, if he remains injury-free and regains his form.

West Coast – 15/2
A great squad, and many are tipping them to dramatically improve on 2020’s performance. They arguably suffered more than any other team with last season’s disruption and team hubs.

Port Adelaide – 15/2
Unlikely to top the ladder again, but who knows? Nevertheless, the finals look likely and a chance to gain revenge for last year’s heart-breaking exit to Richmond.

Collingwood – 12/1
We now move towards the surprise territory. Star players have left. Does anyone think that Collingwood are better now than in 2020?

Western Bulldogs – 12/1
Certainly in with a shot at the finals. But you get the sense that the team could easily drop-off in form.

GWS – 14/1
It’s hard to understand why a considerably weaker GWS have a shorter price than the Saints (see below). Like Collingwood, they have lost good players.

St Kilda – 16/1
A young team brimming with potential – could be the surprise package of AFL in 2021.

Melbourne – 22/1
Can they improve on last season when they almost made the eight? Yes.

Carlton – 28/1
As with the Saints, Carlton feel like a team on the up and up. Perhaps the best chance in eight seasons to finish in the top eight.

Hawthorn 40/1
Still in rebuilding mode. The Hawks fans will hope to see some evidence of that coming to fruition. Improving on last season’s five wins would be a good start.

Fremantle – 50/1
Some pundits believe Fremantle could defy critics and make the eight this season. As you can see, the bookmakers do not share that belief.

Gold Coast – 60/1
Didn’t make the eight last season. Probably won’t in 2021.

Essendon – 70/1
Another team rebuilding under a new coach.

Sydney – 70/1
A lot would have to go right for the Swans to finish outside the bottom four.

Adelaide – 100/1
Adelaide seem to be a long way off being contenders again. Like North Melbourne below, they will just want to avoid the wooden spoon – but someone has to finish 18th.

North Melbourne – 150/1
The rank outsiders in the eyes of the bookmakers. Avoiding the wooden spoon is, therefore, the main ambition.
